Back in April this year I did a wonderful collaborative shoot with Arne Maynard, The Garden Gate Flower Company and Kristy Ramage. Arne’s love of very special and rare tulips led him to create this intriguing course with the GGFC together with their talent and all their gorgeous tulips and other seasonal floral, clients were encouraged to freestyle with their arrangements and not be afraid to appreciate the back of flowers, where the detail is often overlooked and beautiful in its own right. Together we all assisted in creating the setting for the arrangements, suggesting the use of a bird’s nest perhaps, even moths and bees were tucked in, delicious decadent fruit like pomegranates and figs were essential as of course as was the inevitable skull who’s bleached bone gave the overall image the theatre of the Dutch Masters. Here are a set of images from the final arrangements, truly incredible. For me removing the light was key, of course a steady tripod and a remote shutter release were essential, there were some very long exposures!
A wonderful day with all.
Here is a link to a lovely article on Gardenista which has featured some of these images.
