This month so far has been full of spring hope, including the Amberley Cow Hunt, which was the most beautiful sunny day, so lucky! A few visuals below of brilliantly named cows and delicious cakes!
Seeds are all in now! I got home too late last night to check if any had emerged, but this morning I was quick to get out there with my cup of tea. Very exciting…. So much for the saying above, they’re all coming up – though with the generous assistance of the slug and snail community here, I suspect they might be congregating for their spring feast fairly soon!
The garden as you must have guessed by now is my biggest task this year, I guess working for one the worlds best garden designer has had a much more impressionable effect that I ever imagined! Blossom is all out, though I hadn’t the heart to pleach the crab apples as yet, I just couldn’t bear pruning off all those branches, not yet! The roses are forming fat buds, my viola Victora’s Blush is going great guns as is the Centurea Montana Jorday, these are my treasures from our garden at Chelsea last year. Looking back, I can’t believe a year has passed so quickly! Liz L and I were creating the most enormous displays which had to last a week at The Dorchester in conjunction with Laurent Perrier’s garden designed by Arne, what a stressful time that was, amazing too, in the most incredible way!
This weekend however will be very exciting indeed! My cottage interior will start to shed its rather ‘jolly’ buttercup colour and emerge into a fresh pure white. The inner butterfly at HC is about to emerge, with the wonderful help of the lovely Liz Z! We shall start however with drinks at the Stirrup Cup in Bisley tonight and then a little stretching at a local yoga class, rounding off the morning with a donut from Pippin’s stall at the farmers market, followed by cranking up the 80’s tunes tomorrow afternoon and getting our best painting gear on to commence the transformation. It won’t be all work, no doubt a little partaking in some grape juice testing and also a trip up to the bluebell woods behind me on Sunday, there was also talk of watching a friendly polo match, but we’ll see, those polo boys sound like a whole entity of their own – which I shall address with Jilly C one of these days.
The wild garlic in the woods behind me (Lightwood) is stunning, it would be rude not to make pesto or some artisan breads with it, so perhaps we’ll do a little foraging, who knows; the Shires has a way of opening up lovely surprises every day.
